The Maria Eden Archery Competition
- 30th July 2023
- Competitions will take place at 10am and 1:30pm.
On Sunday 30th July, the Bishop’s Palace will host Wells City Archers for an outdoor archery competition in front of the stunning backdrop of the Medieval Great Hall.
The archery event gets its name from Maria Eden, one of the daughters of Bishop Eden (Robert Eden, 3rd Baron Auckland), who was Bishop of Bath and Wells from 1854-1869. Pictured is an image of Maria who was a keen archer and shot recreationally in the grounds. The tradition of archery at the ground still lives on to this day.
Come and watch the Wells City Archers face off against each other on the South Lawn in a friendly competition!
The Maria Eden Archery Competition is kindly sponsored by Indigo Archery based in Radstock; they will be running a ‘Have-A-Go’ lane adjacent to the competition on the day. Visitors to the Palace on the day can see a real competition and if they wish, have a go on a separate lane.
Admission
Spectating the archery competition is included with any standard admission ticket. Pay once and visit all year: all full price Bishop’s Palace Admission Tickets include access to The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens for 12 months (excluding some special events).
