Exclusively for Friends of the Palace: Half-Day Beginner’s Writing Workshop

23 April 2026 | 2pm – 5pm

Friends of the Palace are invited to join us for a half-day workshop exploring how to find and develop ideas using the Palace and Gardens as inspiration. We’ll look at crafting endings that work and overcoming the barriers that often trip us up.

Beginners are very welcome, and the workshop will also offer a refreshing creative boost for more experienced writers who would like to explore new ideas.

The workshop tutor is author and storyteller Beth Webb, who has seventeen published titles to her name.

Here’s what to expect:

Stage 1 – We take a stroll around the gardens or Palace (depending on the weather), discussing ways to gather ideas through note-taking, photography or sketches.

Stage 2 – We return to the workshop room for an open discussion about why starting to write can sometimes feel difficult, followed by a short talk from Beth on how to structure a simple story. Then we begin writing.

Stage 3 – Participants will be encouraged to share their story ideas in an open, friendly and informal discussion about what works, what doesn’t, and why.

Stage 4 – Participants leave with renewed confidence and plenty of ideas to develop further.
