The Great Hall Exhibition

7th October – 1st February 2026 | 10am – 4pm

The Palace’s Conference Room (with lift access to the 1st floor).

Curated by Palace volunteer, Stuart Moore, this exhibition explores the fascinating history of the Great Hall, once the magnificent dining and entertaining space of Bishop Robert Burnell. Built in the 1280s, the hall was among the grandest secular buildings in medieval England, second only to Westminster and Canterbury in scale, demonstrating Burnell’s immense influence as a statesman.

This exhibition brings together architectural history, medieval life, and the evolving role of the palace landscape to reimagine the splendour and significance of the Great Hall across the centuries.

The Great Hall Exhibition is included with general admission tickets to The Bishop’s Palace, including Day Tickets, Annual Passes, Joint Ticket with Wells Cathedral, and Friends of the Palace membership.
