The Bishop’s Table café

Located in the heart of the visitor area at The Bishop’s Palace lies the award-winning Bishop’s Table, a cafe in Wells, Somerset with a view like no other.  With free access to everyone, all you need to do is cross the drawbridge and you’ll see the award-winning building nestled under the trees overlooking the croquet lawn and Palace buildings.

The Bishop’s Table was named after Bishop’s Ken’s tradition of inviting twelve poor men and women of Wells to share a meal at his table when in residence at the Palace. Bishop Ken was Bishop here from 1685-1691.

Serving delicious, locally-sourced homemade food and some of the best coffee and cake you will find in Wells, it’s now the perfect place to meet friends for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea.  Come and say hello to our friendly in-house team!

Tables are taken on a first come, first served basis, so there is no need to book.

All of our takeaway packaging is made of Vegware and is compostable, biodegradable and eco-friendly.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome inside.

Contact The Bishop’s Table directly on 01749 988111 ext 206 or to let us know about your experience in the café by emailing [email protected].org.uk.
