All History Alive events are included with the Annual Pass and Friends of the Palace.

Our History Alive series brings the past vividly into the present, with immersive re-enactments the whole family will love.

Wander through living encampments, smell food cooking over open fires, watch thrilling battle displays and meet costumed characters as they share their stories.

This isn’t just history to observe, it’s history you can truly experience.

What ‘s On

17th Century Re-Enactment

With the Wardour Garrison

2-3 May 2026 | 9.30am – 5.30pm

Join us this early May bank holiday as seventeenth century soldiers and their entourage take over The Bishop’s Palace for a weekend of immersive living history.

Across the historical Palace grounds, visitors can explore a bustling encampment and experience what life may have been like in England during the seventeenth century. From domestic crafts and camp cooking to military drills and skirmishes, this family-friendly event brings history vividly to life through sight, sound and atmosphere.

Knights’ Tournament

With the Knights of the Warwick Warriors

20 June 2026 | 9.30am – 5.30pm

Feel the thrill of medieval combat as armoured knights clash in a spectacular Tournament of the Knights at The Bishop’s Palace in Wells.

World War Two Re-Enactment

With Classroom Adventures

1-2 August 2026 | 9.30am – 5.30pm

Travel back to wartime Britain and experience the sights, sounds and spirit of the 1940s at The Bishop’s Palace. Our Britain at War Day brings history to life with costumed performers, authentic activities and a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.

Children and adults alike can enjoy a wide selection of traditional games from the 1940s and beyond, offering laughter, challenge and a touch of nostalgia.

Medieval Re-Enactment

29-31 August 2026 | 9.30am – 5.30pm
