The Somerset Poppies Display at The Bishop’s Palace

6th – 19th November | 10am – 4pm

Hundreds of metal stemmed poppies will be displayed at The Bishop’s Palace to commemorate the Remembrance weekend in November.

There were originally 7986 poppies in 2018 made by local school children in 2018, one to mark each life lost of servicemen from the county of Somerset during World War One, but some were sold to raise money for SSAFA and the Wells Branch of the Royal British Legion.

After the original Somerset Poppies project finished, it was agreed that the Palace should retain 2000 poppies in order to continue to display them inside the grounds.

The Somerset Poppies are to be put in place by Dan Vidler, who conceived the idea for the 2018 centenary.

This year, the poppies will be on display from 6th-19th November in the Palace’s Inner Gardens near the Well House.

Remembrance Service

On Sunday 9th November, we will observe a two-minute silence at 11am for Remembrance Sunday, and visitors are warmly invited to join this moment of reflection.

And on Tuesday 11th November at 12:00 noon a Remembrance Service will be held in the Bishop’s Chapel. The service will start at 12:00 and finish around 12:25pm, all welcome.
