Over the Christmas period, The Bishop’s Palace will be draining the moat. The moat level may therefore be low.
The moat is drained on advice from the Environment Agency to reduce the levels of weed and silt.
This action has not had any negative impact downstream since the first draining ten years ago. The downstream section is monitored regularly whilst the sluice is open. The section of stream from the exit sluice and down Silver Street is very healthy.
The moat will return to its usual level following this work.
