Lady Gass was Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset from 1998 to 2015.
She is a member of the Acland-Hood family who have lived in Somerset for many generations.
She has a degree from Girton College Cambridge.
She was a Somerset County Councillor from 1985 to 1997 and Chair of the Exmoor National Park Committee from 1989 to 1993 and Vice-Chair of the Social Services Committee.
She was a Commissioner for English Heritage from 1995-2001.
She was involved in the appeal for the Cathedral West Front. She has been a Trustee of the Girls Chorister Trust from its foundation.
She is at present a Trustee of the Wells Cathedral Preservation Trust.
She is a member of the Cathedral Council.
Lady Gass was appointed Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in the 2014 New Year Honours List.
Lady Elizabeth Gass became a trustee of The Palace Trust in 2015.
