As part of their theatre programme, Magdalen College School, Oxford takes a production on tour; in previous years, they have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe, where they received 5* reviews. This summer, they are touring the South-West, including The Bishop’s Palace, with a new adaptation of Scaramouche!, a swashbuckling romance set during the French Revolution, based on the novel by Rafael Sabatini.
A fast-paced comedy-drama, Scaramouche! follows the story of Andre Moreau, a young man seeking vengeance for the death of his friend at the hand of a ruthless aristocrat, the Marquis de la Tour d’Azyr. On the run from the law, Andre joins a troupe of travelling players disguised as the character Scaramouche. In this guise, he must avenge his friend whilst winning the love of his childhood friend Aline, who is betrothed to the deadly Marquis. Our production, performed by 6th-form actors and musicians of Magdalen College School, Oxford, will feature plenty of live music, larger-than-life characters and exciting duels. The running time will be 40 minutes.
Bishop’s Palace Members and WHP holders Only (no need to book in advance)
